We are thrilled to share the success of our first outreach event as the Usman Oyetunji Ogungboye Foundation (UOOF)! On July 7th, 2023, we had the privilege of hosting selected school Prefects from four secondary schools, namely Olalomi Comprehensive College, Iyeru Grammar School, Okin High School and Moremi High School, all in Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria. We engaged with the secondary school student prefects and discussed the essence of good leadership. The goal of the event was to inculcate principles of effective leadership and empower these young individuals to become positive change-makers in their communities.
Pre-Outreach Preparation
Our team at UOOF worked tirelessly to ensure a well-organized and impactful outreach event. We developed a comprehensive work plan, seeking approval from our CEO and board of trustees. Through collaborative efforts, we gained acceptance from the school and engaged dedicated resource persons and volunteers to contribute their expertise. Extensive communication was maintained with school principals to ensure smooth coordination. Logistics such as securing a venue and procuring necessary materials were meticulously arranged, and budgeting for refreshments was done to provide a comfortable environment for all participants.
Key Activities and Initiatives
The day was filled with enlightening activities that aimed to empower the student prefects with valuable leadership insights. We kicked off with an engaging talk on leadership, covering topics such as different types of leadership and the qualities of a good leader. The session sparked lively discussions, as the students shared their thoughts and experiences, further enhancing their understanding of effective leadership.
To encourage teamwork and critical thinking, we divided the attendees into smaller groups and provided thought-provoking questions related to leadership. This mini group discussion allowed them to delve deeper into the subject matter, exchange ideas, and learn from one another.
Recognizing the exceptional efforts of the participants, we awarded gifts to the best-performing students. It was heartening to witness their enthusiasm and dedication throughout the activities, showcasing their commitment to personal growth and leadership development.
